FAQs

Wondering if LifeSpeak is the right fit for you or your family? You’re not alone. Here are some of the most common questions we hear.

What exactly is LifeSpeak?

LifeSpeak is a communication coaching and speech-language therapy practice focused on pre-teens, teens, and young adults navigating life transitions—like higher education, employment, independent living, and social connection. We support neurodivergent individuals by building real-world communication, self-advocacy, and executive functioning skills..

How is LifeSpeak different from school-based speech therapy?

Most school-based speech therapy stops after high school and is often limited to academic goals and access to the curriculum. LifeSpeak picks up where the IEP leaves off. We focus on lifelong communication skills: self-awareness, self-advocacy, navigating new environments, building relationships, interviewing, and more.

We’re not here to “fix” someone—we’re here to empower them.

Do you only work with autistic clients?

Nope! We support neurodivergent people with a variety of profiles, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • ADHD

  • Auditory Processing Disorders

  • Anxiety

  • Learning disabilities

  • Social-emotional communication differences

If communication impacts your confidence, connection, or daily independence—we’re here for you.

My teen already gets support through school or another provider. Would LifeSpeak still be helpful?

Yes! We’re designed to complement, not duplicate, existing services. Think of us as the “missing piece” that helps bridge school-based support to real-world readiness. We collaborate with existing teams and help fill in the gaps with communication-focused coaching that’s tailored to life transitions..

What if my teen or young adult isn’t excited about this?

We get it—and we don’t force participation. Instead, we start by building trust, learning what matters to them, and helping them see how communication skills can support their goals. Many of our clients come in unsure and grow into confident self-advocates over time.

Is this just social skills training?

Not at all. Social connection may be part of the work—but our focus goes far beyond “fitting in” or memorizing scripts. We build flexible, authentic communication strategies rooted in identity, values, and everyday problem-solving.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

We offer both, depending on the client’s needs and location. Some clients prefer a hybrid model to practice communication across different settings (home, community, online, etc.).

Do you work with families or just the young person?

We do both. Supporting families through the transition from childhood to adulthood is a core part of what we do. We can coach parents/guardians directly, include them in sessions as needed, and collaborate with care teams to ensure everyone is aligned.

How do we get started?

You can start by emailing us to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. From there, we’ll learn more about your goals and explore the best next steps together.

Do you take insurance?

Currently, we are a private-pay practice.

I’m a professional or organization interested in training. Do you offer that?

Yes! We offer professional development for educators, support staff, clinicians, and companies seeking more inclusive, neurodiversity-affirming practices. Topics include: communication coaching, transition planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and leadership development. Contact us to learn more.
